| | Music -- Soundtrack to Your Life W/O | | Let's face it, if you are a music lover, you have a soundtrack to your life. I was thinking of hosting a write-off on this idea. It would be one of those general mix-tape type of reviews, where you select the songs. I was thinking of leaving it pretty open -- you could write your soundtrack from all different parts of your life, or focus it on one part of your life, such as college, love, memories of childhood, dealing with loss, etc.
This idea is still in its infancy. I thought I'd see what people thought first, before I gave picked a timeline. Although, I guess I would probably be looking to do this the last week of July, but that's not in cement or anything.
I am thinking there shouldn't be specific questions to this write-off, just your freedom to choose an aspect of your life and write about it with the addition of song. What do you think?

| | I'm game, seems a bit of an invitation to welcome a few folks into bits and pieces of your life through music. What better medium could there be?
Keep me informed on the happs.

| | I will participate. Just email me more info.
I would like to do it on two albums if possible. If not, I will just choose between them. Let me know.

| | I love the idea of the Mix-Tape... I've always been a fan of the theory... and sharing my life through one (at epinions no less) is merely a challenge...
I WILL be out of town for three days towards the time you're thinking... so we'll see about the submission time... and/or deadline you decide!

| | Question - since 2 music reviews I have done have been "advice" ones as in top 10 and one other review all of which took me no less than 3 days, I am a bit apprehensive, though it sounds interesting. So my question is this?? Do you envision the songs, i.e. titles as part of the piece written or are we reviewing the music first and foremost with the rest as a backdrop. For example. I could write something like, "There was a huge lightening storm the other night - James Taylor sang about it in his song "I've seen Fire and I've Seen Rain." and then go on or do you see us reviewing each song. I have seen these kinds of reviews done both ways.

| | Howdy you guys! I hope you don't mind, but I went ahead and posted an idea that I had for a write-off that was real similar to this one... I hope it's not too close, but if it's okay I'd love to be a part of this one too. I'm not absolutely positive that my write-off will turn into anything official anyway, I have to see how many people take an interest in mine. Even if they don't I can still do my own, it's no big deal. Take care~~~ |

| | UPDATE | | Ok, I've been draggin my heels about updating everyone on this for several reasons.
One being that this review was done before, and I did not know that.
The other being, that everyone and their mother has ideas for this write-off, and just about all of them are good! I am having a hard time working in everyone's ideas, but here is what I came up with:
You tell the story of an event in your life through music -- Any story from any one part of your life. It can be the "what my father means to me through music" story, or the "I've never loved anyone like this through music" story. The writer picks the story to tell, and the music they will use to do it with.
Some people want to get more creative than that. If you want to picture it as a movie, or you want to cast people to play your part, or you want to try writinging it in the third person, or any other of the many, many ideas people have shared with me, that is fine.
So, be as creative as you wish. All I ask is that you tell one story, from one aspect of your life, through music.
Ok, I will assemble a preliminary list of participants and the date shortly. My brain is fried right now, and everyone seems to want to do their write-off when I was planning on having mine. I will keep you posted. | | |
