encourage Epinions newcomers Aug. 11

On Saturday, Aug. 11 (or as close to that date as is possible) several experienced Epinions writers will take part in a write-off to encourage newcomers to the site.

Each participant in the first Community Commentsment Write-Off (name suggested by Sloucho) will look through the various "Just In" forums until they find a promising writer who is relatively new to the site.

Then they'll leave a constructive, encouraging comment on one of that writer's reviews. As jo.com has wisely suggested, the comments should include some description of the write-off so the newcomer being encouraged is aware that this is a community effort.

Anyone feeling especially inspired should feel free to leave comments on reviews by more than one writer. This is one of those cases for which someone devised the cliche about "the more, the merrier."

When participants have left their comments, they are asked to e-mail the URL of the reviews to pww@columbia.edu . I'll add the comments to a Web page, along with links to the reviews by new writers and to the profile pages of the experienced writers.

Interested? Please add to this thread. I'll send an e-mail with the relevant information to all participants a few days before Aug. 11.
