| | I'm in.
I meant to play last time, but real life got the better of me.
Um, but I don't remember the rules, actually.

| | Dear Julie,
Thanks for joining up, and thanks for asking.
The procedure is pretty simple:
1) Around Dec. 15 (the rules are flexible, too) find a relatively new writer (the definition of "new" is up to you) or writers whose writing deserves more attention than it's getting.
2) Leave a constructive comment on one or more of that writer's (writers') reviews.
3) Send me an e-mail with the name of the writer you've selected, and the review or reviews you want highlighted. If you like, cite the quote(s) from the review(s) that you would like highlighted on the Commentsment II page, along with the quote(s) from your comment(s) that you'd like there as well. If you don't include this information, you're trusting me to make the decisions for you.
4) Then I'll add the information to the Web page that will ensure great fame for the writer(s) you've selected, and for you as well.
But because the rules are so easy to follow, the penalty for breaking them is severe: We'll take away your edit/delete button.
I hope you're still in.
Best wishes,
Peter |

| | Peter, I'm willing to try it again. Hopefully the newcomer I choose will be a little more appreciative because the one I spotlighted last time did not acknowledge me once in any way. It was very disappointing. Do you think I sounded patronizing in my comments about her review? I fear insulting another newcomer.

| | I might do this.
I'm sort of philosophically opposed to really helping Epinions right now.
However, I'm fully in favour of anything supportive of the community. I'll search for deserving newbies (or, would an under-read but still active old-timer do?).

| | Re: Encourage Epinions newcomers, again | | Hi Peter,
I think there is a problem with the second page of the Commentsment information.
When I click on the above link and then select HERE from: Links to writers who reviewed books and movies are here. I am taken to: http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/ep...mentsment.html which has the message: Actually, we couldn't find the page you requested. Please check the URL

| | A couple of things:
Dear Father Kurt,
If you have the enthusiasm to cite more than one writer, please do. And if you come across an old-timer whose work deserves more attention, that's great as well. I figure anything we can do to encourage each other is worthwhile, especially since there's been so much lately that is discouraging.
Best wishes,

This is embarrassing, but I've accidentally deleted the second page of the original Commentsment Web site. And I don't know when I did it, although I'm sure it was sometime after Sept. 1. Anyway, I've put in a temporary page with links to the new writers who wrote about books and movies. I'll repair the page when I can, and I apologize to everyone whose work I've shortshrifted.
Also, I promise not to delete the pages for Commentsment II. |

| | Peter,
I can't wait! Of course I'll do this again. I've already tried to respond to your email, but I keep getting 'failed delivery' notices.
I happen to take this particular message very personally...

| | Dear Fabien,
Nope, nothing as involved as a review. Just write a constructive comment in the comments section, and then send an e-mail to pww5@columbia.edu or a PM to me here to let me know whom you've selected.
I hope you'll consider taking part. All the cool people are.
Best wishes,

| | Hmmmm.
Moral dilemma here.
After all, the most beneficial thing anyone can do for any innocent newcomer to the Mutha Site these days is to encourage them to run like hell and not get involved with this tar baby.
Somehow I don't think that was what y'all had in mind, though....
Still, I suppose Strunk-and-Whiting anyone is an inherently Good Deed. Call me a tentative 'Sure.'

Yep. Knowing you, my good friend the sunshine fairy, you more than likely intimidated her. Is she still even writing reviews at Epinions (or anywhere else, for that matter) anymore?
Hi, missed you. Lost your email address. But, will trot on over to your member profile and pick it up soon. Don't worry about it. Hope I don't repeat your 'mistake' Okay, Peter I'll give it a try. ***PETER, that means I'm in. Hope I don't make a mess out of it all. So, put me on the list. For better or worse. (Had so many sys probs over the holiday & following weekend, I'm feeling a small loss of confidence, here).
Take care,
Rouchelle

| | Now Rouchelle, she wrote a dozen more reviews after the one I commented on, plus I read more of her excellent reviews. She hasn't written since the end of October so I think Epinions scared her off by taking away eroyalties or maybe the edit/delete button for a while. I really don't know why she didn't like me. Maybe I embarrassed her or she thought me too much of a fool. Yeah, I know, she had me pegged from the get go!

I honestly think it's her loss, if she did leave because she got enbarrassed. Now, that's not to say you can't be direct and "to-the-point" when you see it as needed. However, your many great points out-weigh that occasional candid and enthusiastic disregard to sensitivity. So, nope, she might have THOUGHT she had you pegged but, I beg to differ. She shoulda stook around and found out.
Personally, the world could use a few more like you, Jan.

| | Rouchelle, you onery little angel (onery just sounded fun), 29th_Candidate actually loves my candidness (but not my candidateness, only my candid dateness), but then he's one of those guys, you know, and so it goes. However, your compliment on my wittiness or other fine-tuned attributes is much appreciated. I will discover someone else this time for Peter and for you. And it was her loss, you're right.

| | The primary reason for posting is this is that I was getting tired of seeing the Epinions Blows Dog write-off on the main page all the time, and not because I disapprove of the EBD protest, because I don't.
The secondary reason is to point out that there are some interesting writers spotlighted in this initiative so far. Thanks to everyone who has suggested a newcomer or two.
And it's not too late, if there is anyone out there who wants to try to give a deserving writer an extra minute or two. There's still plenty of room on this bandwagon. :amish:* * There is no bandwagon smilie, but the Amish sometimes use wagons. | | |
