In an article about the attempts by the Eastern (Orthodox) and Western (Roman Catholic) churches to reconcile, this little gem appeared: Relations between the Roman Catholic Church and Orthodox Christianity, which consists of more than a dozen independent churches, have been cool since the Great Schism of 1054.
Note that this is not 10:54 a.m. or some strange date in October or even October 1954. Yes, they mean 948 years ago when the Christian Church ripped itself in two and lost centuries of development time fighting with itself.
Somehow "Great Schims" don't seem to lead to a period of cooling relations. |
