I Hate Them Too!!!!!
When I returned to college as an adult, all the writing rules had changed. In education we were expected to use a style (with endnotes) that I'd never seen nor ever used. They said it was because they wanted everyone in education to use the style needed to get published....which is THE important thing in education today....getting published.
But, it was agonizing for someone that had always used a different formatting style. And, every professor marked grades down if a semi-colon or anything was not properly placed. It took me hours not to write the papers but hours trying to conform to the formatting. I even got out of a master's for curriculum and instruction because it was mainly research, and thus writing in this style.
Nowhere (no where doesn't look right...one word or two? whoops, I digress) was a class offered in writing this way. I felt that every class I took was really a formatting class because I'd have wonderful comments about my content and concepts but be marked down for formatting mistakes. What the heck is that all about???
The last few classes I took that required long research papers I hired out to be typed.
Hate end notes and all of the rest
Thought I was going to college to learn not to type!
