Tips for in theater reviews

I usually see all my movies on video, where I can rewind to make sure I got all the points clear (especially since my memory isn't what it used to be. heck, it never was what it used to be.) But, how do you keep track of everything when you see a movie at the theater? Do you find it harder to review a newly released movie? Are there any pointers you could give me to make sure I don't totally mess up? Thanks

I take a notebook--actually it's one of those large, hardbound journals you can buy at any megabooks store--and a trusty pen and I scribble notes furiously in the dark while the movie is playing--usually good quotes, plot details and whether or not Halle Berry really reveals all. Things like that.

In truth, I find it harder to review movies from theater-viewings than I do those I watch at home on DVD. If I'm watching films by myself, I'll often hit the pause/rewind button several times in the course of a film, just so I can jot down impressions and capture quotes.

And, no, it doesn't suck all the enjoyment out of the movie experience. Quite the contrary.

I don't use a notebook. My handwriting is bad enough without trying to write in the dark. I try to make five or six mental notes about each movie and then try to wrap a review around them.

You guys need:

It's a pen! It's a light! It's a true penlight!

Lights up when you write, illuminates just your page.
