A resume question

Now, here's one you can't just look up in the general resume help pages:

Back in February, hubby signed on with a temp agency, and they found him a job. Nothing else came up, so he stayed with it. He was under the temp agency for about two months before his time with them was up, and he was free to sign up with the company on his own, going through their office, etc. He's been with the company on his own since early May.

Now, it's the same company, same job, but his records *at the company office* only date back about two months. How would he go about working this into a resume? It would look kind of silly to list it like:

Company XYZ
May 2001 - present

Company XYZ through Snelling temp agency
February - May 2001

And then list exactly the same job information twice! Ideas? He also doesn't want to "dwell" on this job too long on the resume since it doesn't relate at all to any job he really wants, and doesn't want to push off the older job information that does show the kind of job he's interested in. (Did that make sense?)

I actually had the same situation; I just graduated from college; over two summers, I worked for the same company. The first summer I worked through a temp agency, the second summer was directly for the company. On my resume, it just says, "Company XYZ, 6/98-8/98, 6/99-8/99".

Basically, even though your husband technically was employed by the temp agency 9since they're the ones signing the checks), he was still doing the same job, and the fact that he was working through the temp agency for part of that period of time isn't really as relevant as the work that he did there. And if a prospective employer were to contact anyone to verify employment, it would more likely be the actual company he worked for rather thasn the temp agency.

And I ended up getting a job with the resume set up the way it is, so I guess I was doing something right....

Hope this helps.

My husband has been working for the same engineering firm for eleven years.

The first four through a temp agency, six directly

He's job hunting now.

On the resume he just has

Company XYZ January 1990 - present

Hasn't had any troubles with it......

I like Bridgette's solution. One thing to try is spinning positive because this is a very big compliment. You might want to consider something like:

1999-2001 - ABC Corporation Your Town, USA

Began as temporary employee through staffing agency and hired as full-time staff after only two months. blah blah blah...

------------
Most employers know that the agency was either paid extra to bring your husband on (I think we pay 10% of first year salary) or that his work was so good, that they kept him at the exorbitant temp rate for a very long time. In any event, it's a good thing.

Your old music cannot sustain you through a life, not if you're someone who listens to music every day, at every opportunity. You need input, because pop music is about freshness, about Nelly Furtado and the maddeningly memorable fourth track on a first album by a band you saw on a late-night TV show. And no, that fourth track is not as good as anything on Pet Sounds or Blonde on Blonde or What's Going On, but when was the last time you played Pet Sounds? - Songbook by Nick Hornby

Thanks guys, I'll pass this along! We've got to get his resume together and out today to try for a new job.

Exorbitant is right! Guess how much Snelling took? This job, for the shift he works, pays $9.25/hour. While he was at Snelling, he only got $6.00/hour for it! For two months! I think it 520 hours of work to get out from under them. Sheesh!
