The AP Style Book

I just got a freelance job as the areawide correspondent for a statewide publication, and they said, "You have an AP Style Book, right?"

Well, I didn't, but of course I said I did and bought one immediately. My instincts were always about 99% right, but I had done a lot of guesswork over the years about the other 1%.

What a useful little book this is.

Because my son is doing some sports writing, I bought one for him, too (they're $10 and change at Overstock.)

I've done my third story, and my second set of pictures (I'll have to practice my photography skills a little more on our upcoming trip to NY.)

And I referred to the AP Style Book about five times today.

Re The AP Style Book

Congratulations!

And it is a wonderful little book, isn't it? I used to consult it daily. Now I rarely use AP style as my workplace mostly uses Chicago (the big difference being that AP says no serial comma). I still far prefer AP for its usability.

Did you get a version with a spiral binding? I found that great for leaving a page open on my desk while writing.

Re The AP Style Book

Strunk & White + AP Stylebook + hustle > J-school

And as they used to say down at City News, "If your mother tells you she loves you, check it out."

Congrats Maryanne. Your readers are in for a treat.

Re The AP Style Book

AP is preferred here, but I keep Chicago on hand as well because every client is different

Re The AP Style Book

Congrats, Fraz!

I have to do the AP stylebook and some wacky Maryland Gazette styles (Internet, Web-site, on line, fund-raising)...so I have a correspondent's handbook, too.
