Hello,
I am involved with a new e-zine named Azul. It is currently under construction, but is accepting submissions for its first issue. We are looking for the best, whatever genre or style it may be. Check out azulzine.com for guidelines.

It is customary to offer payment or copies of print editions for submitters, yet I see you do neither. What is the compensation for acceptance? What are the rights the author is giving you for publication? Your guidelines specify no pay and don't specify anything about rights at all. |

Thank you for your interest in Azul. Since Azul is a free e-zine we cannot pay our writers at this time. However, we will feature our writers with promenance. Also because of this, writers retain all rights to their work. |

Prominence... as in links back to the author's homepage and such?
I figure I'm making nothing from most of my work now... more links means a wider net to land real fish, right? |

Exactly, we will provide info about our writers, their web page, where to find other work by them, interviews with them, that sort of thing. |

I'll look for some sets of 100 word stories that center on particular themes. |

One of the things I learned in researching how to market my husband's photos last week is that, at least with photographs, if you give your work away then nobody values you since you don't value yourself.
I tend to suspect that the writing market is similar in that respect. Leslie would know.

Judy, a freelance photographer I met in Florida told me the same thing. He even went so far as to tell me not to post any of my good shots online, because the mags, like you said, won't treat you like a pro if you don't treat yourself like a pro.
