Just blowing off steam...

...and trying to get my head together.

I'm always complaining about not finding anything to write about. I rarely get writers block. More often, just disinterest.

I finally have four or five good topics that really turn me on (including a couple of books that I really enjoyed), and although I want to write them all, I can't write a lick.

It really isn't a block. More a complete lack of any kind of creativity. Can't put a half a dozen words together to form a complete intelligible sentence. Everything is flat. Boring. Lacking in color and rhythm.

Don't usually have this problem once I find a topic and have the enthusiasm that I now have.

Maybe I've already said everything I have to say.

Is it possible to be totally "written out"?

Rich

(By the way, where the hell does that question mark (above) really belong? Where it is, or inside the quotes?)

Pull up lawn chair, Rich. Let's talk.

I know what you mean. I tried to push myself into writing for a while now, but that only seemed to make matters worse. It came out garbage that I wouldn't publish on the fridge. So, I'm just gonna coast until it just happens like it used to.

Good luck.

You're correct, sir. Outside the quotation marks.
Then again, you've always struck me as the kind of person who does a lot of things outside the quotation marks.

I'm with you on the feelings of pseudo-block, Rich. I, too, have been feeling listless lately (Note to self: Next time the wife is at Wal-Mart, have her pick up a couple of lists). I've got four reviews (two movie/two book) sitting in my brain, just waiting for the signal from my fingers. Unfortunately, two weeks ago my fingers said they'd do the walking. I haven't seen them since.

I don't know if it's possible to be "written out," but there are certainly fallow periods we all go through. I always try to stimulate my brain through a) exercise, or b) reading something really good or c) applying the seat of my pants to the seat of the chair.

Commiseratingly yours,
David

Write about not being able to write. I think I will repost something to Easily Addictive on the subject.
