In every generation each person is obligated to see him or herself as having left Egypt. As it is said, "And you shall tell your children on that day, 'It is because what Hashem did for me when I left Egypt.'" -Talmud Bavli (Pesachim 116b)
The sun is shining today in Jerusalem. The suddenly spring-like weather that has surprised us here has brought with it the knowledge that Passover is right around the corner. I have a feeling that the hopeful message of renewal found in the Passover story will be especially comforting for all of us who have gone through the numerous tragedies of the past year.
In an effort to add a more personalized twist to this year's Passover seder, I am compiling a collection of short stories of personal redemption to go alongside the Haggadah for this year's seder. I am looking for original, inspirational stories sharing the motifs found in the Haggadah, namely redemption from disaster, overcoming long odds, the journey to freedom etc. Stories must be true and previously unpublished.
All authors that submit a story will receive a copy of the final product. Selected stories will be included in the compilation and published in time for this year's seder. Proceeds from this project (if any) will be donated to The Wigit Fund, a non-profit philanthropic fund dedicated to promoting understanding and tolerance. In order to meet our deadline, stories must be received by Monday 4 March 2002.
Thank you for your help!
Sincerely,
Jason Epstein
