Oh, apostrophes have always been a nightmare! ('s) for singular possession, and (s') for plural possession. And really, no exception no matter what letters the proper noun ends in. But , lots of people, myself included get very creative sometimes.
Such as: (Jones's) which does look strange, I admit, but is grammatically correct to show singular possession. I still haven't figured out how to do plural possession when the proper noun ends in (s) i.e. Jones', and I've seen Jones'es.
Just look on the Internet under "Bridget Jones's Diary" and they've got it every which way you can think of.
Also stuff like 1990's is really supposed to be without the apostrophe, but 1990s looks strange to me, and can be potentially confusing when done that way with other words.
There is help. The website
www.grammarlady.com
has been a complete Godsend for me. I suggest getting on their newsletter as they have lots of great information and brainteasers plus a lot of funny stuff on their message board about the peculiarities of this strange language we speak!
