I've got my hate on for Nextel
I'm VERY FRUSTRATED right now. We get craptastic Nextel about 28 - 30 months ago, give or take. Honey wanted it. We get it, then we both hate the service, the features and most of all, the price. The price was always so much more than they quoted us in the beginning. We never used the phones for anything "extra", and honey stopped calling information on it after I informed him it was over $2 a pop, etc.

We get tired of the expense, the crappy service and the crappy customer service. Our 24 month contract period ended this spring. I waited an extra month just to be SURE before cancelling.

Knowing Nextel's craptacular customer no-service department and lackadaisical billing people, I cancelled in writing. I faxed in a copy and mailed in a copy of the cancellation to be extra-double sure.

That was July. Keep in mind part of the initial cancel letter was a request for a partial month final bill for July, which we never received.

We receive our regular bill for August, as if we hadn't cancelled at all, plus late fees. I send letter # 2, with a copy of letter number one attached. I fax it to the same number, plus the corporate office fax as well. I mail a hard copy.

Now we are receiving collection letters from them, and ALSO, seperately from the collections people, MORE regular bills, plus late fees.

Yesterday I sent letter # 3, much less friendly, with copies of letter # 2 and letter # 1 and a note that I would be seeking the advice of Consumer Help Web and reporting them to the BBB as well.

So George and Joan, can I seek your advice and assistance?

We had a similar throw-down with T-Mobile. We cancelled service on a switch over and pointed out that we didn't USE the phone. No outgoing or incoming calls were there. They argued we owed them since we didn't port the number out. Apparently, in their world, no one ever stops using a cell phone... they just leave T-Mobile.

Sometimes, when the world is changing rapidly, the greater risk is caution.

We didn't port our numbers either. We turned of their stanky phones the second we sent the letter and had planned to erase them and donate them to the battered women phone drive here once the ties to NExtel are severed.
