Wanna Help Me Re-Name My Business?
Hey Y'all...

My business is ever changing to adjust to the demands of where I live (we move a lot). In California it was Phoenix Consulting (graphic design, web pages, writing, very little bookkeeping), in Oregon it was Phoenix Rising (writing, very little graphics, web or bookkeeping), in Massachusetts it became "My Name" Consulting (mainly bookkeeping, graphics, very little web or writing). Now, in NH, I find my talent for "disaster relief" is coming to the fore. I do mostly bookkeeping and "organization/system implementation", with a smattering of graphics and writing and negligible web page work.

My talent for disaster relief means that I am very, very good at fixing your unholy paperwork/bookkeeping/office system/organizational/writing messes.

Examples of recent clients:

1) A man who not only had not paid his taxes for 7 years, he had never unpacked any paperwork of any kind after his wife passed 7 years ago and he moved to a different house. I took him from a 12 x 14 room packed to the ceiling with unsorted boxes to a filing system, computer accounting system, streamlined his checking/savings/money market/IRA acocunts and investment accounts into fewer accounts/companies with better track records for his needs, and got him caught up on his taxes (with the help of my friend the Tax Attorney) - all without incurring penalties.

2) A landscaper who started his business last year with two workers. Grew into 10 workers in two crews by this summer, and is still growing. He had no systems, piles of receipts, losing payroll funds, etc - gave him a system he can use in his truck like an office, plus a base office in his home and a bookkeeping system, etc.

3) Re-writes on a tight schedule, rapid-fire editing, etc.

4) Cleaned out a woman's home after her husband died - got his stuff organized, set her up with a yard sale and Goodwill donations, etc. - she couldn't face 25 years of his stuff on her own.

Suggestions for a name so far:

Never Surrender Bookkeeping (which I like, but which leaves off the writing/design aspect of what I can do)

Ideas?

Oh - I really like that Phoenix Rising.
Can you use that again with a subline about raising customers out of their unorganized hell (written more creatively, of course)

Hmmm.... I'd picture someone showing up with a dumpster wearing bondage gear. Big Grin

Split the businesses into record disaster recovery and copywriting/creative work. You can sell the other service to a client once you have them in the door, but trying to promote both at the same time to everyone is most likely to come off as a jack of all trades but a master of none.

I like Phoenix Rising for your creative work, and (Your Name) Disaster Recovery & Consulting for the financial and tax side.

Roll

I LOVE IT. OCC. And I know JUST the person for it. She vacuums her grass. Yep. You heard me. She vacuums... her... grass. And she wonders why I thought maybe helping others get "organized" might not be the career for her... Big Grin

Anyway, for the curious...

NH has this odd new law that says your company can't even SOUND like another company in the state. So when i went to register my business that automatically knocked all variations on Phoenix and Phoenix Rising out of the running (heaven forbid my firm have the same name as a bakery or a CPA, both operating from parts of NH hours away from me - might confuse the natives or something). It also knocked my own name and variations thereof out of the running (apparently there is another peson with my name in NH somewhere).

So, after several hours, I chose this uninspired moniker:

B G W E

(bookkeeping, graphics, writing, and editing)

'doh

*sigh*
