Beats me. The only "VR" with which I'm familiar is Virtual Reality.

I use v/r in my military emails all the time. It does mean "very respectfully."

I don't think using "v/r" instead of "very respectfully" is very respectful.

"VR" in my line of work means Vocational Rehabilitation.

I concur that V/r is disrespectful, because it is not commonly used or understood, forcing a person to take time to look up what it means. If I was going to put Yours Trully I would spell it out, not put Y/t. Spell it out like you mean it. Plus, why VERY respectfully anyway. Couldn't we just have put Respectfully and be done with it and now have gone through this exercise. If we write someone we really respect do the rate a Very Very Respectfully. We don't put Yours Very Trully. Either your truthful or you're not or respectful or your'e not. Let's leave it at that. Don't need a rating of how much you respect me.

V/r is indeed used for "Very respectfully". It is a very common way to end emails and bulletins in the military. Though it is optional to actually type out "Very respectfully", it is acceptable to shorten it to V/r because of the frequency of its use. >>
>>
"Very respectfully" is, or should, always be used when a subordinate is addressing a superior. "Respectfully" is used when a superior is addressing subordinates. It is proper military etiquette that everyone in the military should understand, and is therefore not disrespectful. >>

It's so interesting what five-year-old threads new members choose to resurrect.
