Yay for better sleep soon! (Hopefully)
Joseph *finally* brought up the subject of his snoring and apnea with the doctor and is on the road to getting it checked out. Primary consultation yesterday, sleep study Monday night. I've never been so excited to have him sleeping somewhere else in all our married life! Big Grin

Where is he having the sleep study done? (Lab name, please Big Grin) I'm curious if it's one of 'ours'

It's not one of 'ours'. Now, how much do I have to bribe your hubby to go in, and say 'Do y'all use sleepex here? I hear that's a really cool program for sleep labs Big Grin'

Hug Poor Lynn!

I just realized something. If they can help DH, whatever they choose to do will probably result in *more* sleep-bothered nights for me, at least to begin with. DH's snoring used to be very bothersome, but I eventually got used to it and now it's like white noise to me - I almost can't sleep without it. (The *really* bad snoring still bothers me, especially certain pitches or frequencies.) So if that changes, I'll probably be awake half the night because I'm missing his symphony! Lol

Well, he failed with flying colors! Big Grin

The nurse who was in charge of his session said he had more than 5 episodes of stopping breathing, but they didn't count every single one last night. The complete tally will be worked up over the next few days to determine how severe his case is. Plus he'll have to go back for a night of trial work with a CPAP plus different masks to see what works best for him.

Hopefully this will *also* help solve some if not most of his need to go to the bathroom all the time, especially at night. I always figured it was a case of waking up from an apnea episode, and realizing "Oh, I need to go" but sleep apnea actually *causes* you to go to the bathroom more - you produce more urine (even during the day) because of the release of a chemical when the heart is under stress from the lack of blood flow. Fix the apnea, fix the over-peeing. Cool!

Yeah, I've heard that. Him, too, probably. I just hope he won't give up before he gets used to it - some guys are like that, try it once and if they don't like _____ out it goes. I think he has more sense than that, though!

RE: Yay for better sleep soon! (Hopefully)
He was stopping breathing an average of 81 times per hour! Eek The tech said that's not the worst he's personally seen - that was 170 times/hour. Can you imagine?!

Joseph's had his machine for a week now and it seems to be going well. It's a bit of a hassle, of course, but nothing too onerous. He's still trying to adjust to having the mask on all night, but gradually working up to being able to stand it. One problem he's having is that his psoriasis is trying to act up on him (he's under new medication for that, and it's not working as well as it should) and he feels like his cheeks right under the mask may be trying to have a flare-up. Sad

For the most part he's doing well with it, though. It's extremely quiet, like a fan on low. Even when he breathes, it's not some huge sucking, hissing sound like I was afraid of. In fact, now I can't even tell when he's asleep or not, because he and the machine are so quiet! Lol

I think the biggest "problem" he's having now is that he's been so tired, for so long that he's been just zoned out through the day - and now, he's wide awake. He said that the days seem soooooo long now! Roll

Our life style has made us such a busy that we cant get up early in the morning because we sleep very late. But sconce has proved and declared that get up early and go to bed early at least makes you healthy.

LOL, I don't remember this piece of spam stuck in here! Big Grin

So, next Saturday, *I* go. I started snoring several months ago and Joseph just can't get used to it. It doesn't bother ME at bit. Big Grin I really don't think I'm stopping breathing, and I'm certainly not up and down all night from waking up. But I'm having the snoring and other E/N/T type problems, so this is where the doc wants to start.

Amy, you still good for that bribe? Wink

Has it helped hubby?

Living in Atlanta 50% of the time has done wonders for both of us...Dan claims he sleeps poorly because I'm always poking him. I of course sleep poorly because he's like a chainsaw. He even admits it now, but has decided the best way to get around it is for us to have separate bedrooms. In a tiny house, that isn't happening, but I think we both sleep better when I'm traveling, LOL.

Somehow in moving our bed upstairs it's shrunk. 15+ years no problem with Hubby, me, and three cats sleeping on an antique inverted-bell four-poster with a 3/4 size mattress (that's 3/4 of a full, good thing we're slim). Suddenly the bed is too small even without the cats. And we're in a room that's exactly the same size, too. But the bed is closer to the window... maybe that's changing our space perception.

RE: Yay for better sleep soon! (Hopefully)
Yes, it has helped Joseph tremendously! He finally settled down from the "days feel like forever because I'm wide awake" thing and it's all just normal sleeping now. He's been through several different air delivery things - the over-the-nose-and-mouth full mask thing didn't work, so he now has something that looks like a nasal canula that would give you oxygen in the hospital, except the air holes are huge with rubbery ends that fully plug your nostrils around the edges, delivering the air straight into the middle of the nostrils. The headgear is doofy and it messes with his hair growth (seriously, it grows all crooked now, it's a bear to cut!) but it's worth it.

The only annoying thing is that the blowback of air that comes out of the back of the canula thing blows on me if he's turned my way. I don't like air blowing directly in my face, and certainly not in winter. But it's a minor thing.

Well, since I can't stand to be touching once I'm ready to sleep, it's luckily not a problem. Just annoying to try and put something that blocks the air, yet not have it falling in my face.

SIGH.

They said I have moderate apnea - 24 episodes/hour in light sleep, 55 in REM sleep. So I go back Friday for a night on the machine.

I don't know why, but this irks me SO BAD. I can't explain it, I know it's weird. I guess it's mixed up with resentment over the way my snoring has gotten treated at home - "someone" snored like a train wreck for 10+ years, but I'm never, ever allowed to snore, even when I'm sick with a cold. He gets *mad* about it.

Ain't marriage fun? Wink

(Yes, this is a minor blip in the grand scheme of things. I love the lug. Big Grin )

I have a friend who snores based on his weight. If he gains about 15 pounds, he starts to snore. When he drops the weight, the snoring goes away.
