One would think that their drinking water is free of brain eating worms, but apparently not.

Well... it may have other implications. My husband is not a neti pot user, but he does use a machine filled with water for his sleep apnea... I am guessing the same warning applies for him as it does for the neti pot.

CPAP machines are *supposed* be filled with distilled water anyway - if he's using tap water, he could ruin his machine.

I can't do the Neti pot thing, but I do occasionally use the squeeze bottle variety that NeilMed puts out. It's much easier to use. But I always boil the water!

Kevin uses bottled, but not distilled water. They told him "you can just use tap water, it's fine" when they gave him lessons on it.

That's really strange. DH's place told him tap water only if you get caught short, like on a trip. Non-distilled has too many minerals and stuff in that will cause nasty buildup in the machine, and can rot out the metal plate in the water chamber.

Yeah, since you mention it, our tap water makes green stones. I guess calcium and lime. They do build up inside of stuff -- they built up in my rice cooker so I couldn't use it any more. They build up in the little screen that the water comes out of in the tap too.

Dunno about the minerals in the bottled water. I'll mention using distilled to hubby though.

Our tap water produces black slime. I avoid.

RE: Neti Pot User Warning
A lot of bottled water is just filtered tap water from the towns' water supply where it is bottled. I question whether it is even 'filtered.'

Exactly. It might be marginally better, but there is no certainty.
