I told Hubby he HAS to get away from his parents for a few days - and I mean AWAY. Since summer vacation began, he's been living there part-time and going over the days he isn't sleeping over. And when he's not there, his mother calls him - even if his sister is RIGHT THERE IN THE HOUSE. I told him we had to go at least five hours away so no one would think he could come running back for something other than a true emergency. But... the 24hr live-in care that was supposed to start August 1 will not start now until September 1, and MIL's doctor wants to put in a pacemaker (which is what put the one-month delay on the 24hr live-in care), so I'm not entirely certain we are going to actually go and stay somewhere from Sat-Wed.

Sounds like you have seen about as much of your hubby this summer as I've seen of mine!

Maryland is not quite far enough, but I enthusiastically recommend North Carolina's Outer Banks. Short drive from Norfolk if you want to fly and rent a car or drive down Maryland's Eastern Shore and take the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel. Much more pleasant than I95-I64

We've got reservations for a Super8 upstate (yeah, I'm cheap - if we have to change plans we're not out a lot of $$). So far, so good. MIL gets a heart monitor tomorrow that she has to wear for 24hrs or something.

Sounds like a good plan. Hopefully SIL can manage the next few days.

Left late BUT we are here, his mom hasn't been calling him, his sister stayed the night with the parental units... I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop and a call to summon us back but so far so good!

Hiking today. So far the calls have been "Your sister left the kitchen a mess, you'll have to clean it again when you come back," (hubby to Mom) "Don't forget to have sis take out the garbage or the squirrels will have it all over the yard," and this morning's "Talk to your father, he won't let us give him a bath."

Oh, brudder.

And this morning at 7:50am it's two calls from a home attendant claiming Hubby didn't pay her for last week.

Hopefully a) he didn't forget to and b) He has proof.

a) he didn't b) he doesn't. And the M-F person who was going to come back "in two weeks" (coinciding w/Hubby's return to work) now isn't coming back until 9/3 or 9/5. So thank God we were able to get away for the full four nights!

Aaaaaaaand it seems that for five days and four nights MIL has been telling everyone "leave that for my son, he'll do it." He just got home and he's beat. Sigh.

Poor Mr. MJ.

MIL keeps saying she wants to die at home. I've begun thinking "That can be arranged" and someday I'll slip and say it aloud!

MJ, if you're lucky she won't have her hearing aid in when you do.

Alas, she's got excellent hearing and doesn't need hearing aids.

That made me laugh. Probably shouldn't have, but it did.

hon. Glad you got away, if possible, try to do it again. Sooner than later. One thing I have discovered is that if you force people to reduce their independence from you, they will eventually give up and accept it.
